Sophomore Phillip Jones claimed top honors at the UT Diving Invitational Friday in the UT Student Aquatic Center. Jones took three-meter crown and placed second on the one-meter.

"Overall I am pretty happy," head diving coach Dave Parrington said. "It was our first opportunity to dive a championship list and for the most part we competed well.

Jones took the three-meter crown with a season high score of 579.75 while Sal Vilardo captured second with a score of 516.55, edging past Ohio State's Mitch Richeson (496.90). Jake Dorsey and John Venditti rounded out the three-meter finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

"It is very early in the year to score that high," Phillip Jones said. "I will just take this and build on it."

Mitch Richeson grabbed the top spot in the one-meter with a score of 324.90. He held off Jones, who finished second with 323.60 points. Vilardo finished third, Dorsey came in fourth and Venditti placed sixth.

Next for the Vol divers is the Minnesota Diving Invitational Nov. 22-24, in Minneapolis, Minn.
