DIVING COACH DAVE PARRINGTON’S COMMENTS ON THE OLYMPIC SELECTION CAMP
“I am proud to announce that USA Diving’s Committee for Competitive Excellence has selected The University of Tennessee to host the 2008 USA Olympic Diving Team selection camp.”
“With the advent of our new Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic complex, USA Diving has recognized the outstanding venue the University of Tennessee is completing and our commitment to aquatic sports, and is excited to bring the countries finest male and female divers to campus for a two-week span, during which time the invited participants will spend a week of high level training and preparation, followed by four days of competitive repetitions of their diving lists before a committee of Olympic team selectors.”
“The USA Diving trials will be held three weeks earlier in Indianapolis, where the winner of each of the four individual diving events will be named to the Olympic team. From the trials, at least six participants from each individual event in addition to the Olympic team members selected, and all invited teams for the synchronized diving events, will come to UT for the final selections to take place.”
“The USA Olympic Diving Team will be announced here following the camp. Two divers per individual event and one team for synchronized events will qualify for the team in men’s and women’s three-meter and platform.”
“I cannot thank the University of Tennessee, our athletic departments and staff, Allan Jones for his generous donation and numerous other contributors for their support of our swimming and diving programs and the building of this magnificent facility, which has enabled us to secure the bid for this prestigious event. The USA Diving spotlight will shine brightly on the University of Tennessee during this Olympic year, as we kick off a new era of swimming and diving in the new facility with this great event.”
“Also, former Vol diver and 2004 NCAA Champion Jevon Tarantino is very much in contention for an Olympic team spot in two events and will be participating at the camp.”
