Tennessee freshman diving sensation Ryan Helms added another line to his already impressive resume after participating Feb. 8-9 at the U.S. Selection Camp for the World Championships held at Ohio State University.
Among the field of competitors were several Olympians, including former Vol Jevon Tarintino, and SEC diver Aaron Fleshner of Alabama.
As Helms prepares for the SEC and NCAA Champiosnhips, he took the opportunity to participate in the camp as a chance to get into the mentality needed for championship meets.
"This meet was really great for Ryan," diving coach Dave Parrington said, "it simulated a great championship atmosphere."
Helms was selected to represent the United States on the three-meter springboard in the Canada Cup April 30- May 1 in Montreal. His selection came after he posted his collegiate career-high 425.45 points; it was the first time Helms has broken 400 since becoming a Volunteer.
Former Volunteer diver and NCAA champion Jevon Tarintino was selected to compete in the one-meter springboard for the U.S. at the AT&T USA Diving Grand Prix set for May 7-9 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Tarintino was a UT diver in 2004-05 and won the NCAA one-meter championship in 2004.
