The Tennessee swimming and diving team has begun final preparations for the Southeastern Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The  event is hosted by Auburn University from Feb. 18-21.

TOP TIMES
Heading into the championship meet, the Vols lead the conference with eight of the fastest times. Georgia is second with seven top times. Tennessee holds the top times in the following events:

50 freestyle: Jonas Persson 19.27
200 freestyle: Jonas Persson 1:32.79
100 backstroke: Nolan Morrell 46.85
200 backstroke: Nolan Morrell 1:42.81
100 breaststroke: Barry Murphy 53.32
200 freestyle relay: DeRocco, Dabney, Persson, Murphy 1:17.29
800 freestyle relay: Morrell, Christy, Thirlwell, Persson 6:19.01
200 medley relay: Henehan, Murphy, DeRocco Persson 1:25.08

UT has 18 times that rank among the top 5 fastest in the conference. Only Auburn has more at 31. UGA is third with 17 and Florida is fourth with 12.

THE RANKINGS
Swimrankings.com ranks four SEC teams in the top ten:

4. Tennessee
5. Auburn
6. Florida
8. Georgia

This is the first time since 2001 that Tennessee owned the top ranking going into the championship meet.

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY
Tennessee is third all-time with 10 SEC Championships and 12 second-place finishes. Tennessee last won in 1996.

Auburn University has won the last 12 championships and 14 of the last 15.
