Vols Finish Competition at Last Chance Meet

Feb. 26, 2012

Eight Tennessee Volunteers swam Sunday to wrap up competition at the Bulldog Invitational Last Chance Meet in Athens, Ga.

Two Vols clocked NCAA B-Cut times and a relay team did the same, but none of those times were season bests.

Senior Carl Jones swam the 1650-yard freestyle in 15 minutes, 17.48 seconds, which was an NCAA B-Cut time but five seconds slower than he swam at the SEC Championships. Freshman Tristan Slater swam the 400 IM in 3:49.47, a second slower than he raced at the conference meet as well.

The 200 medley relay team of Ricky Henahan, Renato Prono, Oystein Hetland and Ed Walsh raced again Sunday but fell short of the NCAA A-Cut time, completing the time trial in 1:26.23.

In other races, freshman Ben Scheffer finished the 200 backstroke in 1:46.64 in the prelims and finished fifth, just missing the NCAA B-cut standard by .04. Sophomore Oystein Hetland swam the 100 freestyle in 45.09.
