Tennessee freshman Jevon Tarantino has been named the co-winner of the Southeastern Conference Freshman Diver of the Year Award.
Tarantino, from Boca Raton, Fla., won the one-meter competition at both the 2004 SEC and NCAA championships. He came into his freshman year with high expectations after being a representative on Team USA at the 2001 Goodwill Games.
"I think it was strong to come in my freshman year and do well in winning the NCAA title (one-meter)," Tarantino said. "I am honored to receive the award, and thanks to Tennessee for keeping my head up through a rough freshman season."
Tarantino shares the league's freshman diver-of-the-year award with Georgia's Chris Colwill.
"I feel that there is no question that Jevon was very deserving of the award," UT diving coach Dave Parrington said. "His excellent results throughout the season, capped off with wins at the SEC and NCAA championships, made him a most-deserving recipient of the award."
Tarantino and junior teammate Phillip Jones will be heading to the U.S. Olympic Trials July 7-14.
