The Tennessee men's swimming and diving team has set its 2007-08 schedule, highlighted by the first meets in the newly constructed Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Action begins Oct. 12 when the men's and women's teams combine for the first time in the annual inter-squad preseason Orange and White Meet.

"It will be an interesting format," head coach John Trembley said, "One Coach Kredich and I are excited about. We hope too that the community will come and support the Orange and White Meet over the fall-break weekend."

The first regular season home meet welcomes Kentucky and South Carolina to the UT Student Aquatic Center for a double-dual meet Oct. 27. Last year, the Vols beat both the Wildcats (135-104) and Gamecocks (128-111) at Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, S.C.

"We open the season at home against traditional foes Kentucky and South Carolina in a double-dual meet and that will be a fantastic format," Trembley said.

On the weekend of Nov. 30-Dec. 2, the team travels to the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. This Texas Invitational boasts the Arizona Wildcats as well as the host Longhorns, two teams that finished third and fifth, respectively, last season at the NCAA Championships.

"We will be hard-pressed by some of the greatest swimmers in the world at that competition," Trembley said. "So, we must stand tall and that will bring out the greatest in the Vols."

The turn of the 2008 New Year brings the event Tennessee's swimming family and entire athletics department have been eagerly awaiting -- the first meet in the new Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. The Vols debut the facility by hosting Georgia Tech on Jan. 4, with official grand opening festivities set for Jan. 12.

Allan Jones, a Cleveland, Tenn., businessman, donated $4 million to the much-needed new swim facility. Also, more than 50 swimmers, divers and their families posted a combined $450,000 contribution to the effort along with Jones' gift. In addition, 825 other donors provided to the AJIAC through the Athletics Department's STEP UP program -- a campaign for UT Athletic Facilities.

"The great minds on campus, both in athletics and administration, are hard at work so the new facility reflects the generosity of Allan Jones and his family and the swimming tradition that has been established here over the past four decades," Trembley said. "It will be an amazing show with many surprises in store for the community, the UT swimming family and Mr. Jones and his family."

Trembley could only smile as he withheld the upcoming surprises for the AJIAC debut.

"The grand opening will be the first of its kind, as far as I know, in the history of collegiate athletics," Trembley said. "It will be a meet filled with entertainment, excitement and, again, many surprises."

Another highlight on the 2007-08 season could possibly see the five-time, defending national champions Auburn Tigers compete in Knoxville. Some difficulty in scheduling has arisen, but Trembley is hopeful to host such a high-calibur team here on campus. In fact, the last time the Vols hosted a top-ranked team was 2001 when Texas visited the UT Student Aquatic Center and was upset by Tennessee, 121-120.

"We are running into some difficulty scheduling the meet against the powerhouse Auburn team," Trembley said. "For us to be successful, we will certainly have to work overtime to make it a competitive meet against such a talented team."

The Vols conclude the season at the NCAA Championships, which will be held at Federal Way, Wash. The Vols finished 11th at last season's championships and look to improve on such a strong season.
