Rising senior Kelsey Floyd finished eighth in the 200-meter butterfly Friday evening at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Omaha, Neb.
Floyd, who swam a lifetime best in the preliminaries of the event, competed the final race in 2 minutes, 10.52 seconds. She was in second place at the midway point but touched the wall four seconds behind winner Cammile Adams.
Although Floyd did not place in the top two to qualify for the Olympic Games next month, she did wrap up a successful Trials. She swam career best times to finish fourth in the 100 butterfly and eighth in the 200 butterfly.
Recent graduate Kirstyn Colonias became the fourth current or former Lady Vol to advance to the semifinals in at least one race. Colonias clocked the 14th-best time in the preliminaries of the 200 breaststroke, coming in at 2:30.09. Rising sophomore Molly Hannis was not far behind in 20th place (2:30.60).
In the semifinals, Colonias finished 16th in 2:32.47.
Rising junior Lindsay Gendron narrowly missed qualifying for the semifinals in the 100 freestyle. The top 16 qualify for the semifinals, and Gendron finished 20th in 55.57 seconds.
