Vols Face Cavs After Win Over Auburn

Swimming World Magazine Meet of the Week Preview

The 11th-ranked Tennessee men’s swimming and diving team travel to Charlottesville, Va., on Thursday to take on the 12th-ranked Cavaliers. The Vols just came off an important victory against the second-ranked Auburn Tigers.

“It will be an interesting matchup against the great ACC team,” Trembley said. “Virginia is the reigning conference champion. They are well-coached and they defend their home waters with great pride. There are some great matchups in the 1000 and 500 freestyles, 400 I.M. and all the 100 yard races. On paper, we have an edge in the relays, 50 freestyle and diving events. However, given the tight competition in most events, this will be another tough test for our team. This is the final tune-up prior to the Texas Invitational where we will face No. 1 Texas, No. 3 Stanford and No. 4 Arizona. This is a challenging Fall, to say the least. We are healthy and have been training great. Of course, as coaches, we’ve been guarding against a tough letdown after the win against No. 2 Auburn. So, we will see what happens on Thursday.”

Tennessee leads the all-time series against Virginia 7-3. The Vols are 3-2 against the Cavaliers in the past five meetings, the last of which was won by a score of 134-109.

The meet begins at 1 p.m. in the UVA Aquatic and Fitness Center. Following Thursday’s competition, the Vols travel to Austin, Texas, for the Texas Invitational which lasts from Nov. 30 through Dec. 2.
