Tennessee men's tennis players Bobby Cameron and Mark Dietrich both advanced to the second round of the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships with victories Friday in the round-of-64.

"The highlight of the day was Bobby Cameron winning his debut match for the Vols," men's acting head coach Chris Mahony said. "Unfortunately we came out on the losing end on some closely contested matches but I was happy with the way the guys competed.

Cameron making his debut in a Big Orange uniform shook off some early jitters to comeback and defeat Alabama's Javier Bes 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Cameron's reward for the victory is a second round match up with the nation's No. 3 ranked player, Jesse Witten of Kentucky. Dietrich won his match when Florida's Hamid Mirzadeh withdrew. The lone UT senior faces LSU's Colt Gaston in the second round.

Kaden Hensel and Morgan Wilson playing their first collegiate matches ever both lost to tough SEC foes. Hensel dropped his match to Kentucky's Alex Hume 6-2, 6-1. Wilson lost to Ole Miss's Bram ten Berge 6-4, 6-2.

David Baxendine, Ben Rogers and Kiril Tcherveniachki also lost their first round matches. Baxendine and Tcherveniachki both forced third sets in their matches against seeded foes.

In doubles action all three Vol duos dropped their first round matches. Dietrich and Wilson fell to Florida's Jordan Dolberg and Ryan Sherry 9-7. Cameron and Rogers lost to Mississippi State's Philippe Frayssinoux and Pierre Mouillon 8-6 and Baxendine and Hensel dropped their match No. 10 ranked Mississippi State's Luiz Carvalho and Jose-Carlos Pinto 8-4.

All the Vols will be in action Saturday during the second day of the championships.

"We're looking forward to a more successful." Mahony said.
