Tennessee men's tennis player Mark Dietrich advanced to the quarterfinals of the SEC Coaches Indoor Championships Saturday with two victories in New Orleans.
"Mark played a great day of tennis," men's tennis acting head coach Chris Mahony said. "He is still very short on match play over the last 6 months and by no means is he playing his best tennis yet but he's finding a way to win."
Dietrich improved his record to 3-0 in the spring season by defeating LSU's Colt Gaston in the second round 7-5, 4-6, 6-4. Then in the afternoon Dietrich upset No. 53 Antonio Ruiz of Georgia 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. Dietrich faces Ruiz's teammate at Georgia Greg Oullette at 9 a.m. Sunday in the quarterfinals.
Bobby Cameron the only other Vol left in the main bracket lost to No. 3 Jesse Witten of Kentucky 6-0, 6-3.
In the consolation bracket Morgan Wilson got his first victory ever as a Vol by defeating Mississippi State's Ivan Bjelica 2-6, 7-6, 10-3. Kaden Hensel and Ben Rogers both lost their consolation matches and are done in the tournament. Hensel lost to LSU's Paul White 6-2, 4-6, 10-3 and Rogers lost to Florida's Ryan Sherry 7-5, 6-4. David Baxendine and Kiril Tcherveniachki both had to withdrawal from the tournament because of injury.
