Tennessee's men's tennis team opened their 2005 season Saturday with a convincing 7-0 win over The Citadel at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center.

"It was obviously a good start to the season to get a nice solid win under our belt and get everybody rolling in terms of playing in the dual match format," men's acting head tennis coach Chris Mahony said. "I thought in a few spots we looked a little rusty just like we did in New Orleans but I put that down to just a lack of match play. I think over the next few weeks and months that it will disappear as we get more match tough and fit."

Bobby Cameron and Morgan Wilson put on strong displays in their first ever matches on the Hill. Wilson dropped the first game of the first set but went on to win the next 12 games and dispatched of The Citadel's Nicholas Medica 6-1, 6-0. Cameron opened his match by taking the first set but trailed James Eason 3-0 in the second before rallying to win the match 6-3, 6-4. Cameron's victory clinched the match for UT.

"I'm proud of all the new guys getting out there and getting their nerves squared away which everybody will have in their first match." Mahony said.

Ockie Oosthuizen also had an impressive comeback today, after winning the first set Oosthuizen trailed in the second 5-3 but he went on to win the next four games to capture the match 6-2, 7-5 over Daniel Dossetor. Kiril Tcherveniachki easily defeated Ananda Sawmynaden 6-3, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Ben Rogers and Rawl Martin also won handily.

In Doubles, Oosthuizen and Rogers teamed up for the first time this season after a successful run last fall and picked up right were they left off with a 8-2 victory over Dossetor and Eason. Cameron and Wilson playing doubles together for the first time won 8-3 over David Lara and Sawmynaden. David Baxendine and Matt Berry also contributed to the cause with an 8-2 victory over Jose and Medica.

"Overall I was happy with everybody," Mahony said. "We had great energy and got off to a great start in double matches, and that's going to be a key to a lot of our dual matches this season jumping on the other team in doubles, which we were able to do today."

The Vols are back in action tomorrow at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center against UNC - Greensboro the match is scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
