Feb. 12, 2005

The No. 22 Tennessee men's tennis team fell 6-1 to the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils at Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.

Freshman Bobby Cameron provided Tennessee's (4-2) lone point with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory over Stephen Amritraj at No. 3.

Duke improved to 4-1.

Mark Dietrich and Morgan Wilson both dropped tough three-set affairs at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Duke's Ludovic Walter won the first set 7-6 (6) before Dietrich rebounded with a 6-3 win in the second. But once again, Walter showed his mettle by taking the tiebreaker in the third set, 7-6 (2), to clinch the match.

Wilson fell into the same predicament as Dietrich. After dropping the first set 6-1 to Jonathan Stokke, he won the second set 6-3 to even the match. But Stokke edged Wilson in the third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (6).

Kiril Tcherveniachki, Matt Berry and Kaden Hensel lost in straight sets at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Tcherveniachki fell 6-1, 6-2 to Peter Rodrigues. Peter Shults downed Berry, 6-3, 6-1, and Charles Brezac defeated Hensel, 6-4, 6-2.

The Blue Devils swept all three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 advantage in the match. Amritraj/Shults came away victors first with an 8-2 win over Berry/Hensel at No. 3. Duke clinched the point with the No. 2 tandem of Rodrigues/Stokke as they defeated Cameron/Wilson 8-4. The tightest match came at No. 1 where Walter/Jason Zimmermann edged Dietrich/Ben Rogers, 9-8 (3).

The Vols are scheduled to play at the USTA Futures in Brownsville, Texas, next weekend.
