HONOLULU, Hawaii- The No. 13-ranked Tennessee tennis team defeated Hawaii Pacific University 6-0 Saturday in Honolulu. The Vols now stand at 11-4 on the season, and own a 2-0 series advantage over the Sea Warriors. Hawaii Pacific is currently ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division II and with the loss Sunday, dropped to 7-4 on the season.
The Vols were dominant from the outset, as they won all three doubles matches to claim the 1-0 lead. The duo of Mario Toledo and Wade Orr were victorious in the No. 1 slot. The senior tandem of Peter Handoyo and Adam Carey were winners at No. 2, while the freshman pair of Mark Dietrich and Mark Henderson won at No. 3.
The singles segment was no different, as the Vols took all five of the completed singles matches from the Sea Warriors. Every Tennessee player won in straight sets Sunday, led by the senior trio of Handoyo, Toledo and Carey, who won at the No. 1-3 positions, respectively. The Vols' Orr and Henderson were also winners at No. 5 and 6, while Dietrich's No. 4 match was suspended after the outcome was no longer in doubt.
