In their first competition as Tennessee Volunteers, redshirt freshmen Taylor Patrick and Max Stevens won the Flight B doubles championship Sunday afternoon at the Louisville Fall Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
Patrick and Stevens defeated Lendl Smith and Jonas Imhof of Vincennes 8-6 in the final match. Stevens had reached the semifinals in the Flight A singles competition earlier in the tournament.
Sophomore Bryan Swartz and freshman Edward Jones lost their championship doubles match in the Flight A bracket at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center, falling 8-6 to Illinois State's Alexander Pelaez and Filip Miljevic. Jones had also reached the semifinals in singles.
"Any time you go out and win a tournament, it's great," Tennessee head coach Sam Winterbotham said. "They're all improving every day. These players in the tournament are going to a part of the future of the Tennessee program, so it's good to see them getting better every match."
The Vols resume their fall schedule this weekend with a pair of tournaments: the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga., and the Indiana Fall Tournament in Bloomington, Ind.
