Vols Finish Day 2 of SICs

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Vols finished consolation matches Saturday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.

All three Vols who played walked away with losses, while freshman Sean Karl got a bye into a Sunday morning match.

Freshman Markus Kerner lost to Mercer's Oliver Snaider 4-6, 6-2, [11-9] in the Division I consolation matches. In Division II consolation, freshman Sunay Bhat and senior Colton Norton both lost in straight sets.

LIBIETIS WINS DOUBLES FOR LATVIA
RIGA, Latvia -- On the other side of the world, junior Mikelis Libietis and world No. 36 Ernests Gulbis scored a straight-set victory in doubles over Finland in Davis Cup play.

Libietis and Gulbis beat Finnish brothers Micke Kontinen and Henri Kontinen 6-2, 7-6 (2), 6-3 to give Latvia a 2-1 lead in the tie. With two singles matches on tap Sunday, Latvia is just one win away from the team victory and advancing to the Europe/Africa Group I.

Today's win in Davis Cup was the first for Libietis, who is now 1-2 in Davis Cup. He lost his singles match Friday 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to Micke Kontinen.

Libietis and Gulbis are both scheduled to play singles Sunday.
