The Tennessee men's tennis team wrapped up a banner weekend Sunday, by capturing three singles titles on the final day of the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational and the Steve Baras Fall Classic.

"I'm extremely proud of the guys and their performance this weekend," head coach Chris Mahony said. "Winning three flights of singles out of a possible five is a very impressive team effort. We had several guys win their first collegiate individual title this weekend and the confidence that comes from doing that should put us in extremely good shape for the All-American Championships next week in Tulsa."

Junior Bobby Cameron defeated a pair of Bulldogs Sunday to capture flight A1 of the MT Fall Invitational. Cameron defeated Mississippi State's Phillippe Frayssinoux 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. In the finals, Cameron defeated Frayssinoux's teammate Ivan Bjelica, ranked 42nd in singles, 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). UT junior Kaden Hensel lost to Bjelica in the semifinals, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (13-11). Hensel captured the Southern Intercollegiate Division II singles title two weekends ago. The loss to Bjelica was Hensel's first of the season after winning his first seven matches.

Teammates Ben Rogers and Davey Sandgren dominated the A2 singles flight with both Vols winning three straight matches to advance to the finals. In the championship match, Sandgren needed a super-tiebreaker to get past his teammate, winning 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8). Sandgren did not lose a singles or doubles match all weekend. On Saturday, Sandgren teamed up with Kiril Tcherveniachki to win the A2 doubles flight.

Tcherveniachki fell one match short of matching Sandgren's feat. Tcherveniachki won his semifinal match in flight A3, 6-3, 6-2 over Joao Paoliello of Middle Tennessee, but the UT senior lost his first match of the weekend in the finals to Sebastian Serrano of ETSU 7-5, 7-5.

Sophomore Derek Stephens also won a singles title Sunday when won the "A" singles draw of the Steve Baras Fall Classic in Chattanooga. Stephens defeated Johannes Spangenberg of UAB 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. In the finals, Stephens defeated Samford's Renan Silveira 6-2, 6-1. Stephens dominated the tournament as he did not lose a set on his way to the title.

Johnny Thornton dropped his semifinals match in the "B" draw to UTC's Tim Mittiga 6-3, 6-4. Mittiga went on to win the singles title.

The titles for Cameron, Sandgren and Stephens were the first collegiate singles championships for all three.

The Volunteers return to action next weekend when they travel to Tulsa, Okla., for the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Championships.
