TULSA, Okla. -- Freshmen Markus Kerner and Sean Karl both lost in the second round of singles pre-qualifying Sunday at the ITA All-American Championships.
Kerner rallied in the second set but lost to UAB's Chris Helliar 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 in his match. Karl fell to Farris Gosea of Illinois 6-0, 6-2.
The All-American qualifying draw was released Sunday with matches set to begin Monday morning. Junior Brandon Fickey will play Adrien Berkowicz of Texas at 12:30 p.m. Eastern. Senior Jarryd Chaplin will take on Auburn's Dennis Lengsfield at 3:30 p.m.
Chaplin, who reached the last round of qualifying last year, played Lengsfield at No. 3 singles during the SEC regular season finale in April. He held match point in a tight contest, up 7-6, 6-5 when senior Edward Jones clinched the 4-0 team victory.
Fickey will face Berkowicz for the first time Monday. Berkowicz was a two-time NJCAA champion before joining the Longhorns.
