Vols Set for Doubles Qualies at All-American

Sept. 30, 2013

TULSA, Okla. -- Tennessee's run in singles qualifying was short lived Monday but four Vols will be in doubles action Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships.

Senior Jarryd Chaplin and junior Brandon Fickey both lost close matches in their opening round singles qualifying matches. Chaplin lost to Auburn's No. 3, Dennis Lengsfield, 6-4, 6-4. Fickey won the first set of his match but lost to two-time junior college champion Adrien Berkowicz of Texas 6-7, 6-0, 6-1.

The two Vols will play singles consolation matches in addition to starting doubles play.

Chaplin will team up with freshmen Markus Kerner, and Fickey will play with Sean Karl. The two new teams debuted at the SEC Fall Classic and have since spent more time on court together as pairings.

Chaplin and Kerner take on Binghamton's Ismael Dinia and Sidharta Hazarika. Fickey and Karl play Benjamin Lock and Marco Nunez of Florida State. If they win their first-round matches, they will play the second round later in the afternoon.
