Sophomores Edward Jones and Max Stevens advanced two rounds Saturday into the third round of singles prequalifying at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Jones beat Ryan Proctor of Oklahoma 6-1, 6-2 in his opening round of the day. In the second round, he won his first three-set match of the season 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 over TCU's Slah Mbarek.
Stevens played only one match, but it was enough to get him to the third round. He started his morning with a quick 6-1, 6-0 win over Max Stratmann of Texas at San Antonio. His second match was a walkover.
Jones faces Texas A&M's Austin Klores, and Stevens plays William Parker of North Carolina in the third round.
The pre-qualifying competition ends Sunday with two more rounds. If Jones and Stevens win, they will advance to the qualifying draw, which begins Monday.
Senior Matteo Fago and sophomore Tennys Sandgren are already entered in qualifying for both singles and doubles. Qualifying lasts three rounds, and the winners enter the 64-player main draw for singles and the 32-team draw in doubles.
Defending champion senior John-Patrick Smith and sophomore Rhyne Williams are in the main draw of singles and doubles, which starts Thursday.
