Tennessee men's tennis player Matt Berry's singles winning streak reached 10 matches Monday following his win in the qualifying round of the Icy Hot/ITA All-American Championships. Ockie Oosthuizen and Ben Rogers also kept their doubles win streak alive with their first win at the tournament.
"I was happy to see two win streaks continue." UT head coach Michael Fancutt said. "Hopefully they can play better and better into the tournament."
After his successful run through the pre-qualifying draw, Berry met Arizona State's Jonathan Kinsella in his first match of the qualifying bracket. Kinsella had garnered a No. 17 seed in the tournament and was ranked No. 86 in the national preseason rankings. Berry made quick work of Kinsella with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Berry faces Florida State's Chris Westerhof Tuesday in the round of 32 at 10 a.m.
Oosthuizen and Rogers exacted some revenge for the Vols with their 8-3 victory over Furman's Greg Maarschalk and Ben Pauluhn. Maarschalk and Pauluhn had defeated UT's Matt Berry and Kiril Tcherveniachki earlier in the tournament. Oosthuizen and Rogers are now 6-0 during the fall season.
Oosthuizen lost his qualifying singles match to Ohio State's Scott Green 7-6(4), 6-4.
