CHATTANOOGA - Seniors Wade Orr and Simon Rea, Tennessee's lone representatives in the doubles qualifying draw at the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships, lost in the Round of 16 Wednesday at The Champions Club. Rea's work is just beginning, however, as the main singles draw gets underway Thursday morning.

After posting their first win as a doubles pairing in nearly two years Tuesday, Orr and Rea were defeated by the draw's No. 1-seeded team of K.C. Corkery and James Pade of Stanford Wednesday afternoon.

"It was a good close match (Wednesday in doubles,)" Tennessee head coach Michael Fancutt said. "It will give Wade and Simon valuable experience if they have to team together later in the year."

After six grueling days of pre-qualifying and regular qualifying rounds, the main draws begin play Thursday. Tennessee has no doubles teams entered in the main doubles draw, and Rea is the only Vol entered in the main singles draw. The New Zealand native was exempt from qualifying for the event, as his ITA national fall preseason singles ranking of No. 12 earned him automatic entry into the main draw.

Seeded No. 11, Rea faces Tulsa senior Alejandro Tejerina in the Round of 64 Thursday morning. The veteran native of Argentina currently holds an ITA singles ranking of No. 30 in the nation.

"We look forward to Simon's participation in the (singles) tournament," Fancutt said. "He hasn't had a chance to play in any college tournaments so far this fall due to an arm injury. We're looking forward to seeing how he'll play, and him getting a few matches under his belt."

With over 300 competitors taking part, the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships is the largest tournament of the 2003-04 collegiate tennis season. It offers the first of three national singles and doubles titles during the season, and is followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
