Berry Advances to Division "B" Singles Final at Georgia Tech Fall Invitational

Tennessee men's tennis player Matt Berry won twice Saturday to advance to the Finals in Division "B" singles at the Georgia Tech Fall Invitational. David Baxendine and Kiril Tcherveniachki also won twice to advance to the semifinals of the doubles draw.

"I'm happy that all three of the guys are still in the tournament on the last day," said UT associate head coach Chris Mahony. "We are looking to finish the tournament strong tomorrow."

Berry defeated his quarterfinal opponent Georgia State's Daniel Balog 6-2, 6-1. In the semifinals the UT sophomore defeated Alabama's Andrew Felsenthal 6-4, 6-4. Berry is now 13-2 in the fall season. Berry faces sophomore Brett Hunter of Auburn in Sunday's final.

"Matt continues to grow in confidence while advancing to the championship without dropping a set." said Mahony.

Baxendine won his first match of the day against Matias Sigal of South Florida 6-3, (4-2) ret. In the semifinals Baxendine lost a heartbreaker to Auburn's Brett Hunter 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(5).

Baxendine and Tcherveniachki opened the day with a victory over Nebraska's Joerg Barthel and Jose Rivera. In the quarterfinals, Baxendine and Tcherveniachki defeated Gaston Bagnati and Daniel Balog of GPS 8-4. The Vols duo faces Virginia's Darrin Cohen and Stephen Rozek in Sunday's semifinals.

Kiril Tcherveniachki lost his Flight "A" singles match to Georgia Tech's Zachary Rath 6-4, 6-4.
