Tennessee tennis players Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith fell to the nation's 10th-ranked doubles team Friday in the quarterfinals of the consolation doubles bracket at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., to complete UT's stay.
Sandgren and Smith began the day with a dominating 8-3 win over 37th-ranked Olivier Sajous and Miguel Reyes Varela of Texas. It marked the first win this season for the UT tandem over a ranked doubles team.
In the next round, the UT duo fell to Oklahoma State's 10th-ranked duo of Nathan Byrnes and Oleksandr Nedovyesov, 8-5.
For the season, Sandgren and Smith are 4-3. All three losses are to ranked doubles teams.
The Tennessee tennis team returns to action Nov. 1 when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for the Seminole Fall Invitational.
