MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Mikelis Libietis and John Collins won their first two matches together Friday to reach the quarterfinals at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships.
Libietis and Collins, the tournament No. 1 seeds, got past Ball State's Dalton Albertin and Ray Leonard 9-7 before defeating ninth-seeded Anthony Rossi and Grant Roberts of Kentucky 8-6.
The two Vols face seventh-seeded Isade Juneau and Dimitrije Tasic in Sunday's quarterfinals.
Libietis is the defending champion in doubles, having won the Ohio Valley Regional last year with sophomore Hunter Reese. Collins won the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional last season at Maryland.
The Vols' top-seeded duo was the only team to survive the opening day. Senior Edward Jones and junior Jarryd Chaplin, who had been 5-0 together this fall, had a bye in the first round and then lost 8-5 to Louisville's Alex Gornet and Albert Wagner. Both Jones and Chaplin had won nine matches each this fall season.
Sophomore Brandon Fickey and senior Taylor Patrick won their first match 8-4 against Dayton's Colin Bernier and Josh Malyon but lost 8-5 in the afternoon to second-seeded Tom Jomby and Kevin Lai of Kentucky.
Patrick also lost his opening singles match 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. The other Vols received byes in the first round.
All six Vols will play singles Saturday, with Patrick playing in the consolation draw.
