MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Sophomore Mikelis Libietis has returned to the doubles finals of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, this time with a different teammate.
Libietis and senior John Collins, playing their first tournament together and seeded No. 1, won two more matches Sunday to advance to Monday's title match, where they will face second-seeded Tom Jomby and Kevin Lai of Kentucky at 10 a.m. Eastern.
The winner of the match earns a qualifying spot in next month's USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y.
In addition to doubles, Libietis also kept his singles titles hopes alive. Seeded second in the tournament, he dispatched of 11th-seeded Albert Wagner of Louisville 6-0, 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals and pick up his 10th win of the fall.
Libietis faces 15th-seeded Joe Salisbury of Memphis next.
Libietis and Collins' victories came in close contests Sunday. The Vols' duo beat Indiana seventh seeds Isade Juneau and Dimitrjie Tasic 8-6 in the quarterfinals and earned an 8-5 win against Louisville's Albert Wagner and Alex Gornet.
A year ago, Libietis teamed up with Hunter Reese to win five matches on their way to the regional title as freshmen. This time around, Libietis is with Collins, who is no stranger to success at the USTA/ITA Regionals. He won the Atlantic Region doubles title last year at Maryland with Maros Horny.
In other matches, sophomore Brandon Fickey lost 6-4, 7-6 to seventh-seeded David O'Leary in the round of 16.
Senior Taylor Patrick won his first consolation match against Alex Brym of Ball State 6-2, 6-4 but then lost his second match to Juan Pablo Murra of Kentucky 7-5, 6-3.
