Chaplin, Fickey Reach Clay Court Finals

Oct. 26, 2013

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Tennessee senior Jarryd Chaplin and junior Brandon Fickey won two more matches Saturday to advance to the doubles final at the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational.

Chaplin and Fickey took care of business on the clay courts of the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. They beat Roberto Quiroz and Michael Grant of Southern California 8-6 in the quarterfinals and followed that with an 8-6 semifinal victory over North Florida's Caio Gomes and Yannick Zuern.

The final will be played Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and is scheduled to be streamed live on ESPN3.

It will be the first doubles title bid for Chaplin and Fickey as a team, though they have both done well in that category individually. Both Vols have won two doubles titles in their careers, notably including Chaplin's win with Edward Jones at the 2012 HEB Baylor Intercollegiate.

This weekend also marked the doubles reunion for Chaplin and Fickey. The UT roommates played together last year at the No. 2 and 3 positions in the Vols' lineup, but they had not played together during the fall season. They have a 13-9 career record together.

Tennessee has already won one doubles title this fall, and it was a big one. Juniors Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese won the ITA All-American Championships earlier this month.
