Parsons Wins Milwaukee Tennis Classic
Tennessee senior Mark Parsons claimed the Milwaukee Classic title Saturday for his first tournament championship since his freshman year. Parsons, who was playing in his second consecutive Milwaukee Classic final and was the tournament's No. 1 seed, defeated the nation's No. 23 player and tournament's No. 3 seed Travis Parrott of Georgia 6-3, 7-5.
"Mark (Parsons) gave a great effort to win this tournament," UT assistant coach Chris Mahony said, "He always gives us great results in both dual matches and tournaments. I think he has set a positive tone for our team this week by winning this tournament, which hopefully we can build on." With six straight wins at this tournament, Parsons improved his record to 9-4 on the season and ran his career victory total to 106 wins as a Volunteer. That total leaves him just 10 wins shy of passing Paul Annacone for third on the Vols' all-time wins list. The Tennessee tennis team will be in action Sunday, Jan. 14 in their first dual match of the season against UT-Chattanooga at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center on the UT campus starting at noon.
