Markus Kerner collected SEC Freshman of the Week honors for the first time in his career after an undefeated performance in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Kerner was 2-0 at No. 6 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles with Andrew Dromsky to help the sixth-ranked Vols to victories over Michigan State and VCU. With the wins, Tennessee (6-0) advances to next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
No Vol has racked up more wins in the first two weekends than Kerner. The Estonia native has run his record to 6-0 in both singles and doubles to start the season.
He now has 11 singles wins, tied for second-most on the team. He has played all his doubles matches with Dromsky, a junior transfer from Georgia Southern.
Tennessee hits the road this weekend for the first time this season, taking on Oklahoma State on Friday and Tulsa on Sunday.
