- Tennessee has faced Illinois each year since Sam Winterbotham arrived at Tennessee. The Vols are 5-1 in the series since 2007 but three of the scores have ended a very close 4-3. Illinois last played in Knoxville in 2010, a match the Vols won 6-1.
- Last week, Tennessee defeated Mississippi 4-3 to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the fourth consecutive year. Illinois did not qualify for National Indoors, losing to North Carolina and then beating Georgia Tech.
- Mikelis Libietis is set to face his highest ranked opponent in Illini senior Dennis Nevolo, currently No. 2 nationally. Nevolo was the singles finalist at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
