Tennessee men's tennis coach Chris Mahony announced Wednesday that Christopher Racz, a highly-sought-after recruit, has signed to play for the Volunteers starting in the fall of this year.
"Chris is a fantastic young man with a tremendous work ethic," Mahony said. "He will be an impact player for the University of Tennessee. He is another piece of the puzzle in terms of building this team and program around hard working, talented and reliable individuals."
Racz is from Philadelphia, Pa., and is ranked as one of the top seniors in the class of 2006. Tennisrecruiting.net has Racz ranked as a five-star blue-chip player and No. 12 on its list of national prospects. Racz picked Tennessee over Florida, Georgia and Virginia amongst other suitors.
"I like the atmosphere of the school itself because people were friendly in general," Racz said. "I also especially liked the team since there is a lot of emphasis on improving my individual game and using that to help the team excel."
Raczs' future teammates begin the SEC tournament against the South Carolina Gamecocks at 10 a.m. Thursday in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
