A week after winning his first ITF Futures doubles title in three years, reigning SEC Player of the Year Mikelis Libietis followed up his performance by winning his first career singles title Saturday in Kuressaare, Estonia.
The Vols' soon-to-be junior from Latvia beat the top two seeds at the Saaremaa Open en route to the championship. He defeated top-seeded Vladimir Ivanov of Estonia in a closely contested final match 6-7 (2), 7-6 (3), 7-6 (7).
With the tournament victory, Libietis will move into the top 900 in the ATP World Rankings for the first time in his career.
It has been an excellent couple weeks for Libietis, who is playing a few ITF Futures events this summer in preparation for the upcoming college season. He and incoming freshman Markus Kerner won a doubles title last week together in Tallinn, Estonia.
