Aug. 2, 2006

Tennessee redshirt-freshman Davey Sandgren and incoming freshman Christopher Racz both advanced deep into the USTA National Boys 18 Clay Court Championships held at the Woodmont Country Club in Washington D.C., from July 16-23.

Sandgren, who redshirted this past season, was awarded a No. 9 seed prior to the tournament. The Gallatin, Tenn., native won his first five matches of the competition to advance to the semifinals. Sandgren was so dominant that he didn't drop a set until his fourth match of the tournament, winning the first seven sets he played. Sandgren lost in the semifinals to the tournament's No. 1 seed Marcus Fugate 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.

Racz garnered a No. 3 seed for the tournament. After receiving a bye through the first round, Racz won his first two matches to advance to the round of 32. In the consolation bracket, Racz won five straight matches before losing in the consolation semifinals.
