USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship Selections
Sophomore Mikelis Libietis will play singles in addition to doubles next week at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y.
Libietis was officially added Wednesday to the 32-player singles field as an at-large bid. Ranked 15th nationally, Libietis is 12-2 this fall and reached the singles final of the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships to be eligible for the national tournament.
In doubles, Libietis and senior John Collins qualified for doubles by winning the 64-team Ohio Valley Regional last week in Memphis.
The regional title was the second for both Libietis and Collins. Libietis won the Ohio Valley Regional last season with sophomore Hunter Reese, while Collins was the Atlantic Regional champion at Maryland with Maros Horny.
The USTA/ITA Indoors runs Nov. 8-11 at the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center, the site of the US Open.
The Vols are sending both singles and doubles representatives for the first time since 2009 when John-Patrick Smith played in both draws and the Vols qualified a pair of doubles teams.
