FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The draws for the USTA/ITA Intercollegiate Indoor Championships were released, and Tennessee sophomore Rhyne Williams will face top-seeded Alex Domijan of Virginia in the opening round Thursday.
Senior John-Patrick Smith, the No. 5 seed and a returning semifinalist, plays Texas A&M's Alex Krajicek in his first-round match at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Smith's match begins at 1:30 p.m. Eastern, and Williams is scheduled to take the court at 2 p.m. A live blog will be available at UTSports.com.
Williams, ranked 21st nationally, has an 8-3 record this season with two wins against top-10 opponents. Domijan is No 1 in the ITA freshman and newcomer rankings and won the ITA All-American Championships last month.
While they are playing each other in college for the first time, Williams and Domijan have played each other previously in both the junior and Futures circuits. Williams won the most-recent 2008 meeting in three sets at the Boys 18 National Championships in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Williams is seeking his 50th career victory as a Volunteer.
Smith got off to a slow 5-3 start to the fall season but won five matches on his way to the finals of the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships last week. Smith will play 12th-ranked Krajicek for the first time.
