2003-Indoor and Outdoor- Sat out season with injury
... Registered his lifetime-best leap of 7-0.25 competing unattached to win the
high jump at the Gatorade Classic (May 3) ... Won the open section of the javelin
with a lifetime-best throw of 211-8 while competing unattached at the Sea Ray
Relays (April 12).
2002-Outdoor- Won Most Valuable Freshman Award for field events
at team banquet ... Registered a respectable 6,883 score in his first collegiate
decathlon at USC's Trojan Classic Decathlon (March 18) ... Notched season
bests in the high jump (6-11) and shot put (43-9.25), both the second-best marks
on the squad, at the Trojan Decathlon (March 17-18) ... Forced to withdraw from
the SEC Decathlon after sustaining a hamstring injury during the first day ...
Before his SEC withdrawal, Frykberg stood a respectable ninth with 3,539 points
in spite of the injury ... Showed his mettle by returning to the SEC meet and
recording a then-lifetime-best throw of 195-8 in the javelin and 6-10.25 leap
in the high jump to take eighth in both and help the Vols to the team title
(May 12) ... Took fourth with a 192-7 dart in the javelin at the Knoxville Invitational
... Helped Tennessee run away with the Gatorade Classic team title courtesy
of a third-place finish in the high jump (6-9), a pair of sixth-place finishes
in the shot put (43-0.25) and javelin (178-0) and a seventh-place finish in
the long jump (21-5.25) ... Third-place, 6-6.75 effort in the high jump helped
the Volunteers turn back West Coast powers at the Cal Invitational. 2002-Indoor- Posted his lifetime-best pentathlon score of
3,827, the season's third-best score by a Vol, at the SEC Indoors to earn
fifth (Feb. 22) ... Also entered the SEC Indoor high jump to scrap for more
points, where he finished fifth with a then-lifetime-best, 6-10.75 clearance
at Arkansas (Feb. 24) ... Placed fifth with 3,638 points at Virginia Tech's
Kroger Invitational Pentathlon ... Contributed a third-place, 6-9 finish in
the high jump and 10th-place, 40-9.75 effort in the shot put to help push the
Vols to a half-point win at the SEC Eastern Division Challenge. 2001- Won James Snow Award (most outstanding academic freshman)
at team banquet ... Redshirted ... Opened his collegiate decathlon career competing
unattached at the Sea Ray Relays, but suffered an event-ending injury during
competition. HIGH SCHOOL- Best marks from high school include a 6-7 leap
in the high jump, 47-6 heave in the shot put, 148-0 fling in the discus and
