2002-Outdoor- Chalked
up his lifetime-best 10,000m run effort, a 30:24.26, to secure 21st at the Penn
Relays (April 26) ... Took 12th in the open section of the 5,000m run with a
season-best 15:20.99 clocking at the Sea Ray Relays (April 12) ... Helped Tennessee
defend the 32-year home winning streak with a fourth-place, 8:52.69 time in
the 3,000m run at the Gatorade Classic.
2002-Indoor- Helped the Vols to the team win in the SEC Eastern Division
Challenge with a seventh-place, 15:32.86 clocking in the 5,000m run.
Cross Country 2002- Won Most Valuable Runner award ... One of two Vols to
run and score in every race of the season ... Earned All-Region and All-SEC
honors ... Led the Vols and finished 100th overall in 31:07.6 at the 10K NCAA
Championships ... Led Tennessee with a masterful fifth-place, 32:29.41 finish
at the 10K NCAA South Regionals to secure the team victory and earn a berth
at nationals ... Ran a 25:40.87 to take 12th, second among Vols, at the 8K SEC
Championships ... Led Tennessee with a second-place finish, his season best,
in 25:27.5 to lead the Vols to victory at the Furman Invitational ... Led the
Vols with a 16th-place finish in 25:05.4, the fastest 8K time of the season
by a Tennessean, at the Indiana State Invitational.
Cross Country 2001- Won
Vega-Watts Volunteer Award at team banquet...Earned All-Region acclaim...Competed
in the final four meets of the season and never finished lower than third in
the Vol pack...Offered consistent and dependable output to the Vol cause in
each race...Posted best finish of the year with 19th-place outings at the SEC
Championships (25:17.16) and NCAA South Regionals (31:57.50), standing as the
third Vol to cross the line both times...Second among Vols (180th overall) at
the NCAA Championships with a 31:51 contribution.
BEFORE TENNESSEE- Gildea led Seton Hall in all eight meets last season,
cracking the top 10 five times...Won the St. John’s University Invitational
with a 26:15 time...Clocked a season-best 8K time of 24:57 at the Big East Championships...Took
ninth in 25:13 at the ECAC/IC4A Championships... Finished second at the Lafayette
Invitational and Montmouth Invitational...Prepped at Sachem High...Named All-State
in the 3,200M run as a senior...Competed in the national championships at Boston’s
Reggie Lewis Center as a senior...Clocked an 8:48 at the Penn Relays, good enough
for the Sachem High school record.
