2006-Indoor- Earned his fourth All-America certificate and broke the Tennessee school record of 5,891 (set by Chad Smith in 1991) in the heptathlon with his 5,917 points and second-place finish at the NCAA indoor championships ... Broke personal records in the long jump (24-5 3/4) and the pole vault (17-0 3/4) on his way to the school record ... Helwick's pole vault mark was the third time he had broken his personal record in the event during the season ... Scored 5,644 points in this first hepathlon of the season to finish second at the Clemson Heptathlon Championships (Jan. 27-28) ... Finished sixth in the heptathlon with 4,881 points at the SEC indoor championships (Feb. 24-25) ... No-heighted in the pole vault during the heptathlon, but continued to compete to earn points towards the Vols' second-place team finish ... Rebounded to take third in the pole vault competition, jumping to a then-personal-best height of 16-8 3/4 at the SEC indoor championships (Feb. 26) ... Broke his personal-record pole vault mark for the first time during the season by clearing 16-6 3/4 on his way to a third-place finish at the New Balance Invitational (Feb. 4) ... 2005-Outdoor- Named to SEC Academic Honor Roll ... Won the Volunteer Award (toughest competitor) at team banquet ... Made impressive strides as a decathlete in 2005, including winning the SEC title, taking fifth at the NCAA championships and adding 490 points to push his career-best score to 7,780, eighth on Tennessee's all-time list in the event ... Authored his best meet at the SEC outdoor championships, where Helwick took the SEC decathlon title, posting a score of 7,780, first-day score of 3,977 and second-day score of 3,803--all lifetime bests (May 12-13) ... At the SEC meet, Helwick trailed by a massive 324 points entering the pole vault, the eighth of the 10 decathlon events, before charging to the win in the last three events ... His SEC score of 7,780 ranked as the third best by a 2005 collegian and eighth best by any American in 2005 ... Also contributed his lifetime-best fling in the javelin at the SEC meet, nabbing fourth with a 204-7 measurement (May 15) ... Finished as the Vols' leading scorer with 15 points at the SEC meet ... 2005-Indoor- Not unlike outdoor season, Helwick also answered the call at the SEC indoor heptathlon ... Finished second in the heptathlon with a lifetime-best score of 5,609, ranking third on Tennessee's all-time list in the event (Feb. 25-26) ... Hampered by a knee injury and mired in fourth after the 60 hurdles, the fifth of the seven heptathlon events, Helwick added a foot (16-4 3/4) to his previous PR in the pole vault to rocket to second overall at the SEC indoors ... Earned All-America acclaim in the heptathlon after finishing eighth with 5,421 points at the NCAA indoor championships ... Participated in the Penn State National Meet heptathlon but only competed in four events.
2004-Outdoor- Won Most Valuable Freshman (field) Award at team banquet ... Built on an impressive start in the indoor heptathlon to build belief that he's capable of adding to Tennessee's great decathlon tradition ... Posted his season-best score of 7,290 to earn silver honors in a rare, weather-marred three-day decathlon at the SEC outdoor championships (May 15) ... Score of 7,290 led Tennessee's four-decathlete contingent and surpassed NCAA provisional standard, which ended up just missing the cutoff for NCAA entry by a mere two points ... Also entered the SEC outdoor javelin (sixth, 198-6) and high jump (no height) in attempts to move the scoreboard for the Vols ... Completed his first collegiate decathlon by accumulating 7,276 points, an NCAA provisional qualifier, to earn bronze at the Sea Ray Relays decathlon ... Launched his season-best javelin throw of 199-4 at the Sea Ray Relays decathlon (April 8) ... Won USA junior decathlon championship, using junior implements, at Texas A&M with a score of 7,358 points to earn his berth to the world junior meet ... 2004-Indoor- Set Tennessee freshman indoor heptathlon record with a 5,525 score, an NCAA automatic qualifier, in the SEC indoor championships (Feb. 28) ... Notched career bests in five of the seven events to take third at the SEC indoor heptathlon, including a season-best 6-8 leap in the high jump ... Third-place finish at the SEC meet led a quartet of Tennessee multieventers ... Attempted to scrap for extra points at the SEC indoor meet by entering the high jump but finished tied for 13th after jumping 6-4 3/4 ... Secured heptathlon All-America honors at his first NCAA indoor meet by finishing ninth overall and among the top eight Americans ... Finished ninth with 5,386 points at the NCAA indoor heptathlon, including PRs in his final two events to claw from 12th to ninth on the second day ... Posted his season-best pole vault clearance of 15-1 in the NCAA heptathlon (March 13) ... Took third with 5,210 points in his first collegiate multievent at the Clemson heptathlon ... The 5,210 score at Clemson led Tennessee's four heptathletes and met the NCAA indoor provisional standard.
