all-around athlete who stood fourth or better on the squad's list of top
outdoor marks in 2003 in a remarkable seven events -- 100m dash (10.91, fourth),
high jump (6-7, second), long jump (23-6.75, second), shot put (45-5, third),
discus (138-2, fourth), javelin (192-1, fourth) and decathlon (7,188, third) ...
High point of the year came with a fifth-place, 7,188-point, NCAA provisional
qualifier in the decathlon at the SEC Outdoors (May 16) ... Authored three season-best
efforts during the SEC Decathlon--100m dash (10.91), 110m hurdles (14.79) and
high jump (6-7) and a lifetime-best pole vault mark of 14-1.25 to propel him onto
the scoreboard at the conference clash ... Also volunteered his services for an
eighth-place tie in the high jump (6-5.5) and 12th-place finish in the javelin
(177-8) in an effort to scrap for more points at the SEC Outdoors ... Wasted no
time cracking the NCAA provisional qualifier list with his ninth-place, 7,072-point
effort at the College Station Decathlon, where he contributed his season-best
javelin throw of 192-1 (March 22) ... Selfless efforts proved crucial to Tennessee's
one-point victory at the SEC Triangular in Columbia, S.C., where Sabo finished
fourth in the javelin (matching a season-best 192-1), fifth in the high jump (6-2.25),
sixth in the long jump (22-9.25w) and ninth in the 110m hurdles (15.18) ... Started
off the first day with 3,716 points to stand third at the Sea Ray Relays Decathlon
before head coach Bill Webb scratched him as a precautionary measure in the harsh
conditions ... Went on to finish 10th in the open section of the javelin with

Collegiate Indoor Multievent champions for two, three, four and five-man teams
... Capped his indoor schedule with a season-best, 3,632-point performance to
finish 11th in the SEC Indoor Pentathlon (Feb. 28) ... Notched season-best marks
of 6-7 in the high jump, third in the competition, and 44-4 in the shot put,
second in the competition, during the SEC Indoor Pentathlon ... Earned fifth
in Virginia Tech's Kroger Invitational Pentathlon with a 3,602 score ...
Posted his lifetime-best pole vault clearance of 14-0 at Kentucky's McCravy
Memorial (Feb. 8) ... Put a season-best long jump mark 22-10 down the sand pit
to finish 10th in the Gator Invitational (Feb. 9) ... Helped the Vols to the
SEC East Challenge team win with an eighth-place, 6-6 contribution in the high
jump ... Won shot put `B' section with a 44.2.5 at the Tennessee
Classic. 2002-Outdoor- Battled injury throughout the 2002 season that
kept him from competing in the decathlon ... Went through a packed day at the
Knoxville Invitational (April 28), competing in the shot put (ninth, 42-6.25),
discus (10th, 133-5) and javelin (fifth, 188-2) ... Nabbed 10th in the javelin
with a 162-9 mark at the Cal Invitational. 2002-Indoor- Finished sixth after summing 3,547 points in
Virginia Tech's Kroger Pentathlon (Jan. 18) ... Standing eighth in the
SEC Pentathlon when he suffered an injury forcing him to pull out of the event
and the high jump and long jump later ... Put in another full day at the Kentucky
Invitational with appearances in the 800m run, 60m hurdles (13th, 8.50), long
jump (10th, 22-2.5) and shot put (16th, 40-5) ... Opened up the season with
a 12-5.5 clearance (third) in the decathlete section of the pole vault and 41-3.25
(fourth) mark in the shot put at the Tennessee Indoor Classic. 2001-Outdoor- Enjoyed remarkable improvement in his freshman
season, culminating in a NCAA provisional decathlon score of 7,256 ... Completed
a Vol sweep of the top three in the decathlon at the Sea Ray Relays (April 12)
in Knoxville with a career-best 7,256-point effort ... At the Sea Rays, Sabo
won the javelin and took second in the 100m dash, long jump, high jump and 110m
hurdles to fuel his PR ... Came through in a big way at the SEC Outdoors decathlon
with a third-place, provisional score of 7,238 to contribute valuable points
to the Vol SEC title run ... Scrapped for points at the SECs by also entering
the javelin and high jump ... At the SECs, tallied seventh in a career-best
193-3 to push the Vols to the fore after Tennessee's javelin unit swung
momentum with 18 points, but Sabo no-heighted in the high jump. 2001-Indoor- Set Tennessee's all-time freshman record
in the pentathlon with career-best 3,861-point performance to finish third in
the Virginia Tech Pentathlon (Feb. 2) ... Earned 13th with a 5,123-point accumulation
in the heptathlon at the USA Indoor Championships (March 3) in Atlanta, Ga.,
with best effort in the long jump (fifth, 23-0.75) ... Competed in the long
jump (13th, 22-10) and high jump (no height) at the SEC Indoors at Kentucky. 2000- Redshirted ... Second at the USA Junior Championships
in the decathlon. HIGH SCHOOL- A three-sport athlete (track, football and basketball)
who was a three-time state high jump champion clearing 6-9 ... Helped lead team
to the 1997 and 1998 state championships ... Assisted basketball team to 80-8
three-year record and football team to 28-2 two-year record including 1998 state
