2001-Outdoor- Elected
team co-captain with Toby Colyer...Won Jon Young Captain’s Award and the
Ironman Award at track banquet...Stamps performed his captain’s duties
in fine fashion, as evidenced by Tennessee’s first SEC and NCAA Outdoor
titles in a decade...A stickman of considerable talent, Stamps served as the
glue of Tennessee’s 4x100M and 4x400M relay efforts...Ran the third leg
on the 4x100M relay precisely throughout the season to culminate in a school-record
38.66 in the semifinals (May 30) at the NCAA Outdoors...Went on to run the second-fastest
4x100M relay in school history in the NCAA finals to finish second in 38.80
and contribute vital points to the Tennessee title quest...Stamps also had a
handoff in the 4x400M relay to secure Tennessee’s final, tie-breaking and
winning point at the NCAA Outdoors...Stamps ran the second leg cleanly to help
the Vols to an eighth-place, 3:07.95 4x400M relay effort at the NCAAs...In the
NCAA Outdoor semifinals (May 31), ran the second leg on Tennessee’s 3:04.56
4x400M relay, its fastest effort since 1992 and fifth-fastest in school history...Also
a key shuttle hurdle relay contributor, Stamps ran the second leg of the first-place
shuttle hurdle relay team at the Penn Relays to set a meet record with a 54.73
clocking...Ran the second leg of the silver shuttle hurdle relay effort (54.99)
at the Sea Ray Relays...Established himself as the top 400M hurdler on the roster
with his PR of 51.11, set when Stamps took fourth at the SEC Outdoors (May 13)
to spur the Vols on to the title...Also contributed points by running the third
leg on the winning 4x100M relay (39.57) at the SEC Outdoors...Crossed the line
sixth in 51.98 in the championship section of the 400M hurdles at the Penn Relays...Achieved
his 110M hurdles PR of 14.10 to earn fourth at the Baldy Castillo Invitational
at Arizona State (March 24)...Finished the 110M hurdles in 14.32 and the 400M
hurdles in 51.53 at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville...Clocked in at 51.52 to
earn fifth in the 400M hurdles at the Georgia Tech Invitational.
Indoor- A gifted high hurdler, as evidenced by his 55M hurdles season-best
7.39 (7.90c) provisional time in the prelims of the Tennessee All-Comers Meet
(Jan. 7)...Finished 11th in the prelims of the 60M hurdles at the SEC Indoors
(Feb. 24) at Kentucky with a personal-best 8.02... Took silver in the 55M hurdles
with a 7.46 timing and posted a 55M dash season-best 6.49 at the Tennessee Indoor
Invitational...Finished fifth with an 8.07 effort in the 60M hurdles and clocked
a season-best 7.07 in the 60M dash at Notre Dame’s Meyo Invitational...Ran
a sesaon-best 22.28 200M dash at the New Year’s Invitational at Virginia
Tech...Ran the third leg of Tennessee’s fourth-place 4x400M relay in a
season-best 3:09.60 at the SEC Indoors at Kentucky.
2000-Outdoor- Named Most Improved Track Athlete at team banquet...Stamps
emerged as Tennessee’s best 400M hurdler...Posted a provisional mark at
the Georgia Tech Invitational (May 20) by breaking the tape in 51.12 in the
400M hurdles... Clocked a 14.28 in the 110M hurdles to take seventh at the Gatorade
Twilight Meet (May 18)...Also ran career-best 100M dash time at Gatorade in
10.72 and 10.63w...Came up big at the SEC Outdoors by taking third in the 400M
hurdles in 51.23...Placed fourth at the Knoxville Invitational by clocking a
14.54 in the 110M hurdles...Took fifth in 52.96 in the 400M hurdles at the National
Invitational Team Championships in Austin, Texas...Posted a 51.85 in the 400M
hurdles at the Sea Ray Relays...Was one of two Vol high scorers at the SEC Quad
by contributing 16.75 points to the Tennessee effort...At the SEC Quad, Stamps
won the 400M hurdles (52.27), took third in the 110M hurdles (14.43w) and ran
the fastest leg (47.0) of the second-place 4x400M relay (3:15.11)...Fifth in
the invitational section of the 400M hurdles by running a 52.40 at the Florida
Relays...Ran a 14.52 in the 110M hurdles at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational...Made
a name for himself on the relay circuit, as well...Competed on Tennessee’s
second-fastest 4x400M relay team (second leg, 47.6 split) of the season at the
NCAA Outdoors to earn 11th in the semifinals...Ran the second leg (46.2 split)
of the fastest Tennessee 4x400M relay of the season (and the school’s fastest
since 1992) in a provisional 3:04.72 to place fourth among collegiates at the
Georgia Tech Invitational...In addition to running the 400M hurdles at the SEC
Outdoors, Stamps ran both relays (4x100M-sixth-40.28, 4x400M-fifth-3:07.13)...Ran
the third leg on Tennessee’s two fastest 4x100M relay efforts of the season--a
second-place, 40.17 at the Florida Relays and a fifth-place, 40.20 at the Sea
Rays...Competed on the two fastest Vol shuttle hurdle relays of the season...Led
off the 56.28, second-place shuttle hurdle relay at the Florida Relays...Ran
the third leg of the 56.32, third-place shuttle hurdle relay at the Penn Relays.
Indoor- Finished the indoor season with the Vols’ best 55M dash
time, second-best 55M hurdles and 60M hurdles times and third-best 200M dash
time...Ran a 6.40 55M dash and a 7.40 in the prelims of the 55M hurdles at the
UT All-Comers Meet (Feb. 18)...Clocked an 8.07 in the Kroger Invitational in
Blacksburg, Va., to finish fifth in the 60M hurdles...At the SEC Indoors, competed
in the distance medley relay (a third-place provisional time of 9:45.57), 200M
dash (15th-t place time of 21.77 in the preliminaries) and the 60M hurdles (DNF
in the preliminaries)...Clocked a fourth-place, 8.26 effort in the 60M hurdles
and ran the second leg on Tennessee’s second-place 4x400M relay team (3:16.36)...Third
in the 60M hurdles (8.14) and fifth in the 200M dash (22.20) at the SEC Quad...Placed
fourth in the 200M dash (22.17) and seventh in the 60M hurdles (8.34) at the
Virginia Tech Invitational.
1999- Won the 200M dash indoors at the Virginia Tech Invitational in
22.10 to notch his fastest indoor time of season in addition to running the
60M hurdles in 8.28...Ran a 22.49 200M dash at the IKON Invitational in Johnson
City...Member of Penn Relays champion shuttle hurdle relay team...Was a member
of the 4x400M relay team that finished in 3:11.89 at the IKON Invitational to
earn fourth... Posted a 49.65 in the 400M at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Kentucky...Took
fourth in the 600M in 1:23.18 at the Tennessee/ Indiana/Ohio State three-way
meet...Highlight of the outdoor season came when Stamps ran his career-best
400M hurdles time of 51.79 in the first heat of the SEC Outdoor Championships...At
the SEC Outdoors, Stamps finished seventh with a final time of 52.07...Was a
member of the 4x400M relay team that finished in 3:09.88 to earn fourth at the
SEC Outdoors...Season-best 110M hurdles time of 14.49, wind-aided, came at the
Sea Rays...Best 110M hurdles wind-legal time of 14.74 came at the Georgia Tech
Invitational...Ran a 21.87 in the 200M dash at the Miami Invitational to place
fourth...Best 400M dash time of season came at the Alabama Relays courtesy of
a 49.47.
HIGH SCHOOL- Ranked 24th in world juniors with career-best time in the 400M
hurdles...State champion in the 110M hurdles and the 300M hurdles...Finished
fifth at the Junior Nationals in the 400M hurdles with his career-best time
of 52.51...While at McEachern, team won region four years and county twice...Preseason
All-America in the 400M hurdles according to Track and Field News...Part of
4x100M relay team that set county record in 1998 and 4x400M relay team that
won first at the Vol Indoor Classic...Also played basketball and football.
