His opportunistic charge to victor's laurels in the 800m run at the SEC Outdoors stands as one of the most memorable moments of the 2003 season ... Seemingly hopelessly boxed in and languishing in fifth place with only 150 meters to go, Sylvester found a crack in the pack in front of him, passing everyone on a mad 50-meter dash to the finish line at the SEC Outdoors to freeze the clock at 1:46.56, his season-best (May 18) ... The time of 1:46.56 stands as a regional qualifier, the fourth-fastest time in collegiate track in 2003 and the top Vol time of the year ... After battling a viral infection for a week, Sylvester didn't have enough in the tank to advance past the 800m run prelims at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, resulting in a disappointing 22nd-place, 1:50.60 performance ... Capped his sophomore season with a 1:49:37 time at the USA Outdoor Championships to take 12th in the semifinals ... Gave Tennessee a lead on the first leg of the distance medley relay which the Vols would never relinquish to finish in 9:54.18 at the Florida State Relays ... Also led off the third-place 4x400m relay to a 3:14.92 season-opening time in Tallahassee ... Although ill, helped Tennessee squeak out a one-point win at the SEC Triangular in Columbia, S.C., placing seventh in the 800m run with a 1:54.71 time ... Took fifth in 1:48.56, his first 800m run regional qualifier of the young season, at the Sea Ray Relays ... Authored a masterful 800m anchor leg, a 1:46.3 split, to make up a deficit and then hold off South Carolina's Otukile Lekote to secure Tennessee's fourth sprint medley relay title at the Penn Relays ... The Vol sprint medley quartet posted a 3:14.41 steamer, the second-fastest time in school history, at Penn's venerable Franklin Field ... Also anchored the fourth-place, 4x800m relay team to a 7:21.91 effort to close Tennessee's participation in the 2003 Penn Relays ... Took second in 1:49.56, just two-hundredths of a second off the winning time, in the invitational 800m run at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Classic.

Raced to his lifetime-best 800m run clocking of 1:46.21 to take sixth and earn All-America acclaim at the NCAA Outdoors (May 30) ... The smoking 1:46.21 stands as the second-fastest ever by a Volunteer ... Wrote his ticket to the NCAA meet with a 1:46.79, a NCAA automatic qualifier, in a third-place finish at the SEC Outdoors to help Tennessee defend its team title ... Took second for an important eight points, despite entering the NCAA Indoor meet with the fifth-fastest qualifying time ... Raced to a 1:48.33, third-place performance at the SEC Indoors ... Ran a tough third leg on Tennessee's fourth-place, 9:50.40 distance medley relay at the SEC Indoors ...
