TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The University of Tennessee's outdoor track & field season got underway Thursday, but it didn't take long before inclement weather impacted the 2010 campaign. Heavy rains forced the postponement of the women's hammer and javelin competitions until Friday or Saturday.
Before the downpours washed away the remainder of the opening day, though, Tennessee's Drew Thomas secured a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw. The redshirt freshman from Greeneville, Tenn., unleashed a toss of 157 feet, 11 inches in his first-ever try at that event.
Day two begins at noon on Friday. The Big Orange men and women have a full slate of running and field events scheduled at FSU's Mike Long Track.
Hammer Throw: 3. Drew Thomas, 157-11/48.13m!
