PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Four University of Tennessee men were in action Thursday night in the Penn Relays "Distance Carnival," and all four charted career-best marks running in the cool night air at Franklin Field.
In the Olympic Development 3000m steeplechase final, UT sophomore Steve Fassino logged his second personal record in that event this season. His time of nine minutes, 16.97 seconds was good for ninth place against a field comprised primarily of post-collegiate performers and moved him to No. 7 on the SEC's top performers list in 2010.
A trio of Vols ran 5000m races. In the Championship division, junior Michael Spooner and freshman Leoule Degfae turned in career bests of 14:21.42 and 14:25.07, respectively, to place 16th and 19th with the ninth- and 11th-best marks in the league this season.
