KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- With the SEC Indoor Championships looming next week, the University of Tennessee men's and women's track & field teams will send only a small contingent of student-athletes to Blacksburg, Va., on Friday and Saturday for the Virginia Tech Challenge.

As a matter of fact, the only UT competitors heading to Va. Tech's Rector Field House will be members of the men's team. Pole vaulters Joe Berry and Robert Rasnick, and distance runners Mike Brodsky (1000m, mile), Tom Gilmartin (5000m) and Spenser Tipton (1000m, mile) will represent the Volunteers in a meet that includes a strong ACC flavor. Expected to compete are Clemson, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest among others.

Berry, winner of the last three SEC pole vault titles, and Rasnick, who along with Berry is provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor meet, are tied for second in the SEC this season with clearances of 17-0 3/4. Gilmartin, meanwhile, will run his first 5000m race of the campaign after making three previous starts in the 3K, while Tipton is slated to represent the Big Orange in competition on the oval for the first time.

The fourth-ranked Lady Vols will have the weekend off, as the defending champions prepare to head to Fayetteville, Ark., site of the 2010 SEC Men's and Women's Indoor Championships on Feb. 26-28. The UT men were third last season at SEC Indoors.
