No. 2 Vols Earn 6 PRs at Last-Chance Meets

The second-ranked Tennessee men’s track and field team concluded a day of last-chance competition Saturday with six personal-best marks between the Virginia Tech Last Chance in Blacksburg, Va., and the Cyclone Last Chance Qualifier in Ames, Iowa.

“I’m glad our guys had an opportunity to compete again,” head coach Bill Webb said. “Our guys that earned personal-best times certainly took advantage of that. The runners at Iowa State also ran well and had improvements.”

Team captain Matthieu Pritchett improved his chances of making the national championship meet as he won the 60-meter dash at Virginia Tech in a personal-best, NCAA?provisional-qualifying time of 6.68 that ranks ninth on Tennessee’s all-time performance list in the event. Sophomore Kyle Stevenson finished fourth in that race with a season-best time of 6.76 before turning in another season-best performance as he finished fifth in the 200 in 21.75.

Senior Andrew Dawson led Tennessee’s 800 runners at Iowa State with his fourth-place, personal-best time of 1:48.95. He was followed closely by fellow senior Yarrick Kincaid, who recorded an indoor personal-best clocking of 1:48.97 and finished fifth. Both times are NCAA provisional qualifiers. Freshman Axel Mostrag crossed the finish line 16th in 1:52.10.

Freshman Joseph Berry cleared a personal-best height of 17 feet, 0 inches to finish eighth in the pole vault at Virginia Tech. Sophomore De’Lon Isom finished third in the 60 hurdles with a 7.87 time, just one-hundredths of a second away from the personal-best time of 7.86 that he clocked last weekend at the SEC Indoor Championships. Senior Kris Fant lowered his personal-best time in the 60 hurdles and finished fifth in 7.95. Freshman Charlton Rolle was right behind him in sixth place with a personal-best time of 7.96.

Freshman Mike Brodsky also ran a personal-best time, stopping the clock in 4:18.61 to place fourth in the mile. Junior Richard?Wooten placed 11th in the shot put with his mark of 55-2 1/4. Freshman Michael Ayers followed his third-place finish in the SEC heptathlon with a 9.11 time in the 60 hurdles and a 15-0 1/4 clearance in the pole vault.

The NCAA?Indoor Championships will be held next weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. on the campus of the University of Arkansas. The complete list of competitors is expected to be released Monday night.
