BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Vol Steve Fassino and Lady Vol Holly Kane have been named to the 2010 Southeastern Conference Track & Field Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday.

The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his or her community in superior service efforts.

Fassino's community service efforts include: Popsicles on the Pedestrian - where volunteers gave popsicles to people on campus to improve athlete/campus relations; SEC Together We CAN Food Drive - taking a shift to collect money and cans for the Second Harvest Food Bank; Saving Little Hearts Putt-Putt Fundraiser - playing miniature golf with kids to raise money for children with heart diseases.

The distance runner from Signal Mountain, Tenn., also helped out at Race for the Cure, where he cheered on participants at the finish line of the race to bring awareness to breast cancer; Holiday Dinner - helping to host a Thanksgiving meal for the homeless and giving UT gear as Christmas gifts; and Teams for Toys - purchasing, wrapping and giving Christmas presents to underprivileged kids.

A graduate of Red Bank High School, Fassino also was a member of the 2009 SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Kane, a junior javelin thrower from Knoxville, Tenn., made the squad for the second year in a row. Kane's community service efforts include Popsicles on Pedestrian - giving popsicles to people on campus to improve athlete/campus relations; SEC Together We CAN Food Drive - collecting money and cans for the Second Harvest Food Bank; and the "Little Sister" program - partnering through Kids Hope to become a mentor for young girl with refugee status and meeting weekly to encourage in school work.

She also participated in Boo at the Zoo - dressing as a character to give candy to kids during Halloween; Marketing Trick or Treat - playing games and giving candy to young UT fans before Halloween night football game; and Holiday Dinner - helping to host a Thanksgiving meal for homeless and giving UT gear as Christmas gifts; Additionally, she aided Teams for Toys - purchasing, wrapping and giving Christmas presents to underprivileged kids; Bearden Elementary School - reading to kids at school to encourage reading; and Haiti Basketball Game Collection - collecting funds for the Red Cross before a basketball game to help the people of Haiti.

The Karns High School graduate was the 2010 VOLSCARS Lady Vol Volunteer of the Year, a 2009 SEC Community Service Team member and two-time selection for the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
