Tennessee redshirt freshman Chris Kane was named to the SEC Track and Field Community Service Team by the conference office Monday. It is Kane’s second such honor in as many years on the Knoxville campus.
Kane, a distance runner who also runs for the Vols cross country team, participated in multiple community service activities throughout the 2007-08 school year. The Karns High School graduate volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and Race for the Cure. He was a PRIDE Award Speaker while also participating in Make a Wish, Prom of the Stars and Salvation Army bell ringing. Kane also spoke to elementary students at the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts. The complete team can be found at SECsports.com.
