2009: Named Most Valuable Runner on the team for the second straight season...Ran in five meets, finishing first on the squad in four of them and second in the other...Raced to All-SEC and All-South Region status once again...Finished 11th at the SEC Championships in 25:07.60 and 17th at the NCAA South Regional in a PR 30:49.27, pacing UT on each occasion...Came up just shy of victory at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge, taking second in 25:37.8...Also was 17th (24:09.86) at the Panorama Farms Invitational and 22nd at the Greater Louisville Classic (24:39.17)...The latter race is the only one in 2009 in which he did not lead his team, as Peter Sigilai did so at that meet.

2008: Named Most Valuable Runner at team banquet...Competed in five races for the Vols and was the top Tennessee finisher twice...Earned All-SEC and All-South Region honors, finishing 25th and second among Vols in 32:22.07 at the 10K NCAA South Regional and 13th overall and first among Vols in a career-best 24:05.5 at the SEC Championship...Also finished first among Vols and 45th overall at the ISU Pre-Nationals with a time of 24:24.8...Placed sixth overall in 25:11.0 at the Colonial Inter-Regional Challenge and ninth overall in 25:36.90 at the UT Invitational.

2007: Finished as the fourth Vol and 44th overall at the 10K NCAA South Regional...Was one of four Vols to score in each of Tennessee's six races...Took home Freshman All-SEC honors with his 29th-place finish at the SEC Championships...Finished a season-high third among Vols at the 8K Greater Louisville Classic...Took 11th overall, fourth among Vols, at the 8K Tennessee Invitational...Finished fifth on the team at the 8K Covered Bridge Open.

High School: Won the 2006 Virginia State Cross Country Championship...Claimed back-to-back state championships on the track in the 3,200m and won the 1,600m at the 2007 state meet...Finished 23rd at the 2007 Foot Locker National Cross Country Championships...Anchored the WSHS distance medley relay team to All-America honors in 2006 and 2007...Earned individual All-America status in the two mile run and 5,000m in 2007.

Personal: Majoring in communications...Born July 25, 1988, in Annapolis, Md., to Scott and Karen Spooner...Dad lettered in golf from 1981-84 at Navy and grandfather, Hal, played in the 1960 Orange Bowl as a member of the Navy football team...Mother swam at Northern Florida...Family also includes sister MaryEllen and brother Matthew...Sister was a Freshman All-American in water polo at Penn State-Behrend.
