Cross Country Vols Announce 2007 Schedule
The Tennessee men???s cross country team released its 2007 schedule. ???This year???s schedule combines regional and national competition that will prepare us for the championship portion of the season,??? head coach George Watts said. ???The first two meets will give us an idea of how well we trained during the summer and determine our training needs as we build towards November. The middle portion of our schedule will help determine the makeup of our team for the SEC and NCAA championship meets." The Vols once again host the UT Invitational, which is scheduled for Sept. 14. This year marks the 10th consecutive year that Tennessee???s annual home race has been contested at Lambert Acres Golf Club in Maryville. Tennessee opens the season Aug. 31 in Boone, N.C., at the 8K Covered Bridge Open at the State Farm Cross Country Course. The Vols take a week off after hosting the UT Invitational and resume competition in Louisville, Ky., Sept. 30 at the 8K Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. After another open week, Tennessee travels to Terre Haute, Ind., for the 8K ISU Pre-Nationals meet on Oct. 13 at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center, which also serves as the site for the NCAA Championship. Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., serves as this year???s SEC Championship course on Oct. 27. After the conference meet, the Vols travel to Gainesville, Fla., for the 10K South Regional Championship. Tennessee hosted the meet last year and finished fourth as a team. The cross country season concludes Nov. 19 with the 10K NCAA Championship in Terre Haute. Tennessee has been represented at the NCAA Championship by a team or an individual in all but four seasons since 1971.
