The Cross Country team kicks up their season Friday, Sept. 7
Sept. 6, 2001
Tennessee's cross country
team will open its season at the 5K UTC Invitational Friday evening at Moccasin
Bend in Chattanooga. The Vols will be sending a limited roster of eight runners
for the season-opening race. Tennessee will join host UTC, Auburn, Columbus State,
Georgia Tech, Samford and South Alabama in the seven-team field.
"Really, we're just looking for a solid run," Watts said. "I'm not putting a whole lot of emphasis on this race. We don't want to have our best race on Sept. 5. We want to have it on Oct. 29 (the date of the Southeastern Conference Championships). We're just trying to get our first-race jitters out of the way. Early season meets are more of a gauge that help us determine who to run in championship meets."
Tennessee is expected to send juniors Rob Cloutier, Matt Dewalt and Pat Gildea with sophomores Vince Dressel, Paul Hallman, Tim Kelly, Keith Kimmons and Steve Klein to the line.
